On April 8th 2003 DRO played their second gig, at Colchester Arts Centre, supporting Montreal-based duo Hanged Up (Constellation Records). Unhurried by the audience’s expectations of entertainment, the trio created a 40-minute improvised piece with swelling waves of harmonic distortion, unearthly insectoid chittering and metallic glissandi, rhythmically underpinned by loosely-interlocking loops and glitching music boxes.

To understate the obvious: the performance provided little evidence of the group’s future interest in traditional folk music.
